UWA 11.05.06 Show Review - Kick 'Em in the Taint
Just a couple of weeks off the big Deadly Draw
II show, UCW returns to UWA in hopes of
regaining some lost ground after the last two
shows. Can UWA stop UCW once again or will the
back to back losses motivate UCW more than UWA
predicted?
Scott Slavins and Prototype, the AAR, come out
to cut a promo. It should be noted that this is
the first time the AAR has come out together
since April. Prototype has somewhat of a
gangster look, for some strange reason.
Prototype demands the music to be stopped then
points out that Mike Moros left the AAR to join
Calypso. He mentions that he's not on either
side of UCW or UWA as he simply loves wrestling
and both federations have helped him a lot.
Oddly enough, Prototype joined UCW during the
UWA break. Prototype asks for a title shot which
prompts the UWA Undisputed and Heavyweight
Champion Calypso, with Mike Moros, to come out.
Calypso welcomes PT back to the UWA and mentions
how the last time we saw PT he got knocked the
fuck out by Calypso. Calypso pulls out some
history and brings up 2 Out of 3 Falls from
2005. Calypso then says he doesn't "give a fuck"
which side Prototype chooses. That Prototype
hasn't done anything and hasn't earned anything.
But, Calypso, being the fighting champion, he's
going to give him the title shot. Calypso
announces the main event which is an Open
Elimination match for the Undisputed
Championship. And the match begins.
Calypso(c) Vs Prototype (UWA Heavyweight
Championship):
Both men grapple and Calypso hits a backbreaker
for two. Calypso pounds the back of Prototype,
followed by a knee and a kick to the face. This
is also the first time these two have had a
singles match in the UWA, though they had one in
UCW. Calypso uppercuts Prototype for two. Big
suplex and a kick to the stomach. It's mentioned
that the AAR has been around one year to the
day. A suplex is followed by a roaring elbow and
a set of knees. Gutwrench to Prototype but PT
slaps Calypso and gets some stuff forearms and a
suplex to take control. PT locks in the PTFU but
Calypso gets the ropes quickly. Calypso rolls
out and Moros fans him off with the shovel.
Another grapple, Calypso goes for the backdrop
but PT reverses hit into a rolling headlock and
followed by some stiff kicks to the back.
Calypso rolls to the outside once again. PT
chases Calypso but runs into a forearm, but PT
fights back. PT goes for a powerbomb but Calypso
reverses it into an Emerald Fusion. Both men
crawl to their feet and exchange slaps until
Calypso punches the stomach and hits a DVD for
two. Prototype is now bleeding as well. Calypso
drops about four knees onto the back and ribs of
Prototype and then one to the upper neck and
another roaring forearm. Calypso locks in a
pretty nasty camel clutch right into the Curb
Stomp. A big splash gets two. Calypso headbutts
Prototype multiple times until he goes down.
Calypso misses a diving elbow off the ladder,
allowing Prototype to work on the leg of
Calypso. PT eventually gets about fifteen kicks
to the legs, ribs, and arms of Calypso and the
champion is down! Calypso hits the Proagra and
Calypso rolls out of the ring as Moros fans him
off. Calypso gets a kick to the gut though but
gets Clothesline. PT tells a bedtime story and
Calypso is knocked out! Calypso has no reaction
to Prototype's offense as he's deadweight and
lifeless. PT climbs the ladder and hits the
legdrop. PT hits a springboard Proagra which
wakes up the champion. Calypso gets up and
follows up with nine taint kicks and a
ShellShock for three.
(12:33)
** After the match, Moros shovels PT out of the
ring. Decent enough match but it was mostly a
squash. PT got some token offense in and proved
to be tough, but once again he ended up looking
stupid for not following up with the Bedtime
Story. Calypso showed his new confidence,
however, and that was the main point; the put
over Moros/Calypso and prove that the losing
streak of Calypso is over.
The Unbearable One comes out and says that he
got his "ass flipped in the air" by Josh Bobb.
He refuses to go down like that, however, and
wants Bobb one-on-one. The UCW Heavyweight and
Tag Team Champion comes out. Josh Bobb accepts
the challenge.
Josh Bobb(c) Vs The Unbearable One (UCW
Heavyweight):
Unbearable One charges but gets brushed off by
Bobb. Unbearable one attacks from behind, but
Bobb rolls over him and tosses him off easily.
Staredown but a headbutt sends Unbearable down.
Bobb hits a tombstone and unbearable lands right
on his head. Bobb climbs the ladder and hits a
big splash for two. Bobb hits a big suplex and a
huge kick to the taint. Unbearable One gets Bobb
Dropping Out and then a reverse BobbDrop.
Unbearable fights out of a Powerbomb and hits a
lowblow but gets caught in a chokeslam. Josh
Bobb hits a powerbomb and goes for the 12 Gun
Salute. Bobb just tosses Unbearable One and hits
a bodyslam for the two count. Unbearable One
rakes the eyes and hits the arm drag, leg drop,
and reverse DDT. Unbearable climbs the ladder
and hits the elbow for ONE! Unbearable One goes
for a Stroke but Bobb blocks it and hits the
Bobb Bottom! Bobb hits the People Elbow for two!
A DDT is followed by an attempt at the Twist of
Fate but Unbearable One moves out and hits an
Evenflow DDT and a senton elbow. Bobb powers out
though and hits a legdrop and teabags him for
good measure. Bobb nails Unbearable One with the
chair. Bobb dropkicks the chair into the knees
of the Unbearable One. Bobb hits a piledriver on
the chair and Bobb pins him with one leg while
sitting on the chair for the three count.
(8:00)
* A total squash and nobody believed for a second
that Bobb would lose. Probably not the best
match to have as the first UCW-only match in the
UWA. Oh well.
Bobb comes out with the Bear and says that he's
being forced to defend his title but the General
isn't there. So the Bear has replaced The
General. Scott Slavins comes out alone and says
that, "due to an unforeseen asskicking",
Prototype can't wrestle this match. So to
replace Prototype is the newest member of the
AAR...GAGE!
Josh Bobb and The Bear(c) Vs The New AAR
(UCW Tag)
Well, this should create some interesting
match-ups. Bear and Gage start things off and
Gage goes for a hand shake but pulls back last
second. They lock up and Gage gets a headlock
and swings Bear over, Bear reverses it, but Gage
locks it back in. Bear fights up and gets
clotheslined for his trouble. Gage attacks Bear
and tags in Slavins who double stomps his arm.
Slavins works on the arm of the Bear and tags
Gage back in. Gage kicks the sternum of Bear and
follows up with a dropkick. Bear gets right back
up though and takes a couple more kicks until a
side kick sends him down. Slavins gets the tag
and now attacks the leg of the Bear. Bear
reverses an irish whip and hits a flap jack on
Slavins. A tag into Bobb sees a double suplex.
Gage gets the tag and goes right to Josh Bobb
and locks in the camel clutch. Gage hits a body
slam and tags in Soctt for who hits an elbow
drop from the ladder for two. Another tag and we
see a double shoulder tackle. Gage goes for a
powerbomb but, obviously, fails. Gage gets
pissed off though and punches Bobb in the head.
Bobb gets the tag to the Bear though and attacks
Gage and hits a leg drop and follows up with the
clothesline...two of them, actually. Bear then
hits a huge suplex and then tosses Gage into
Bobb's boot, who tags in. Bobb chops Gage and
hits a DDT and Gage lands head first! Bear gets
the tag and hits a Bear Press Drop and Gage goes
to the outside. Unbearable One interuppts on the
outside, but does nothing of note. Gage and Bear
grapple and Gage swings out of an arm wringer
and hits the sit-out hurricarana. Gage works on
the arm of the Bear and goes to the headlock
which Bear reverses into a vicious-looking
backdrop, folding Gage in half. Slavins gets the
tag though and doesn't give Bear the chance to
get up. Slavins climbs the ladder and hits a
tornado DDT for two. Slavins hits a leg sweep
and goes for a headlock but Bear powers out and
hits a hip toss. Slavins fights from the bottom
up though and kicks Bear in the head. Bobb gets
the tag and body slams Slavins and locks in the
Bobbmission. Bear gets the tag and we see a the
Crouching Bobb, Flying Bear. Bear follows up
with a running powerslam and a gutwrench slam
that sends Slavins flying. Bear and Bobb
double-team Slavins outside until Gage breaks it
up. Another Bear press sends Slavins across the
ring. Bobb tosses Bear a chair and he destroys
Slavins with it, but Unbearable One is
distracting the ref. Slavins gets dropped with
another Bear press and then we get a double
clothesline on Slavins folding him inside-out.
Bobb knees Slavins in the face and the back and
hits the Bobb DDT. Bobb locks in the ankle lock
but Slavins is able to fight out of it. He goes
for the tag but Bobb stops him and hits a
modified dominator. Bobb tags in Bear and the
two of them hit the Bear-Board Press on Slavins.
Bear goes for another powerslam but Slavins
backs out and hits a dropkick. Slavins goes
manage to get the tag but the ref didn't see it.
Bear hits a powerbomb on Slavins. Severe lack of
pins in this match. Bear tags in Bobb and we get
a Spinerbuster/Clothesline combo. Bobb follows
up with a leg drop and Bobb hits a Razor's Edge
for two. Bear gets the tag and Slavins still
can't get the tag. Bear locks in the Cloverleaf.
A huge boot sends Slavins hitting hard. The fans
chat for Gage as Bear tosses Slavins like a rag
doll. Bobb gets the tag and climbs the
ladder...but misses a splash and gets a boot!
Gage gets the tag and sends everyone down with
punches and clotheslines! Gage is on fire and
hits a huge running kick but Bear stops
him...until Slavins joins the fight and all four
men are brawling! Gage hits a suplex for two
thanks to Bobb breaking it up. Gage catches
Unbearable's chain and hits Bear with the
cane...and the Spinning TKO! Bear somehow kicks
out though! Gage slams Bear in a chair and hits
a spinebuster and tags in Slavins who hits a
senton/legdrop combo with Gage. Slavins then
hits a senton on the chair for two. Slavins tags
in Gage...Gage hits a running boot and Slavins
hits a dropkick. A double-side-Russian leg sweep
gets two. Gage unleashes a flurry of kicks on
Bear and then tags in Slavins, who dives off
Gages shoulders for a splash. Slavins then hits
a double stomp but once again only gets two!
Slavins goes for another pin after a stiff kick
to the ribs for two. Slavins pounds away on Bear
and tags in Gage who uppercuts him thrice. Gage
puts him on his shoulders and the new AAR hit
the Air Raid for the three count!
(19:46)
We have new UCW tag team champions! The match was
entertaining but the beginning was a little bit
too-sided. I enjoyed the heat sequence on
Slavins who played his role perfectly and we saw
some great tag team moves as well. Damn fine
match, though plodding at some points. ****
Calypso(c) Vs Prototype Vs Scott Slavins
Vs Gage Vs Josh Bobb Vs The Bear Vs The
Unbearable One (Undisputed Championship)
The new tag team champions bring out Prototype
as a hostage, saying they need him in the match.
Funny moment when Gage rips the tape off of
Prototype's mouth ruthlessly. Mike brings out a
shovel, dubbed "The Shovel of Honor". Upgrades,
I guess. We start the match off with The
Unbearable One and Calypso. They grapple and
Calypso takes him down with a headlock. Calypso
lets Unbearable get up but takes him right back
down. UB gets up but Calypso takes him down with
more submission. Calypso picks him up and pushes
him into the Bear. Bear comes in and Calypso
runs out and tags in Prototype. Bear hits a
running Bear slam. Bear picks him up and drops
him again. Bear locks in the Bear Clutch but
Prototype does not give, and instead fights out
and locks in a submission of his own. Prototype
hits a prototype of a bulldog and tags in
Slavins. Slavins takes off his jacket and they
grapple, to which Slavins just get tossed
off...twice actually. Slavins goes back to cheap
tactics to get the upper hand though and follows
up with a flurry of punches though he gets
clotheslined twice. Bear hits a sit-out
powerbomb for two. Josh Bobb tags himself in and
then tags Gage, forcing the new tag team
champions to wrestle. Slavins tosses Gage into
the ropes and hits a shoulder tackle, hey,
Undisputed title, right? Slavins tosses him
again and hits an hip-toss. Slavins stomps the
arm of Gage then locks in the fish hook! That's
nasty looking. Slavins double-knees the arm and
continues to work on the arm and the wrist. Gage
hits a reverse single-arm DDT. Slavins goes for
the sliced bread but gets dropkicked on the way
down. Gage tosses Slavins into the ropes, tosses
him in the air, and dropkicks him. Bear gets the
tag to Gage and uppercuts Slavins. Bear points
at Calypso and hits a Shellshock on Slavins to
add insult to injury. Bear tags in Bobb who
pounds away on Slavins. Bobb with a leglock but
no submission. Calypso gets the tag and attacks
Slavins while he's down. He stomps, punches, and
elbows for a bit before he nails a nasty
clothesline and a DVD on the knee. Follows that
up with a Rock Bottom on the knee and finally a
reverse back breaker on the shoulder for two.
Calypso hits a stiff kick to the ribs and knees
the back to apply the submission. A roaring
elbow gets two. Calypso with a gut wrench and
Slavins nearly lands on his head. Prototype
doesn't even attempt to tag his partner. Calypso
puts Slavins on his shoulder but he elbows out
and hits a tornado DDT off the ladder. Gage
comes in and they double suplex Calypso and
follow up with a double Russian leg sweep. Gage
goes for the pin but only gets two. Gage tosses
Calypso into the ropes but gets reversed but
hits a headscissors and a side kick for two.
Gage tags Slavins back in, and a double-rube-goldberg
gets a two. Slavins tosses Calypso into Gage,
who tags in Gage on his way. Gage and Slavins
lock up once more with Slavins hitting a German
Suplex for two. Gage attempts a sunset flip but
gets double stomped instead. Slavins hit the
Greetings From Canada for two. Slavins attempts
a double stomp on the ladder but Gage stops that
with his foot and hits a double-underhook
powerbomb for two. Gage pounds away on his
partner and follows up with a dropkick.
Prototype finally tags in Slavins to get revenge
on Gage. Prototype strikes Gage down and tries a
variety of submissions to make Gage tap...all
which fail. Slavins, however, grabs a chair and
dropkicks Gage face-first. Weird team dynamic.
Prototype does a prototype of a curb stomp and
nearly breaks Gage's leg afterwards. Gage hits a
low blow and hits a powerbomb, nearly breaking
Prototype's neck. Gage applies the Mexican
Surfboard and Slavins hits a double stomp on
Prototype(!!!!!) and Slavins locks in a
nasty-looking submission with the neck.
Prototype bites Slavins' leg though and pounds
away at Slavins, then hits him with a DDT on the
chair. Prototype tags in the Bear but Slavins
somehow manages to double-suplex both of them.
Slavins tags in Calypso who attacks the Bear and
the two collide! Calypso tosses Bear in the
ropes and hits a huge spinebuster for two!
Calypso pounds away at Bear while he's down and
follows with a body slam and a couple jumping
knees. Calypso hits a fast CAFLIPSO for two.
Calypso grabs a chair and hits a flying
clothesline for two. Calypso uppercuts Bear and
hits a snapmare and Calypso slams a chair to the
back of the Bear. Calypso hits an elbow drop
from a chair...and another...and on the third
one The Bear throws a chair at Calypso while
he's in mid-air! Bear gets up and hits a double-underhook
piledriver! We go to commercial and when we come
back it's Calypso tagging in the Bear who
suplexes Gage. Gage takes advantage though and
uppercuts Bear a couple of times. Bear tags in
Slavins who's on top of the ladder. Gage climbs
the ladder and Josh Bobb attacks Gage...TOWER OF
DOOM SUPLEX/POWERBOMB!!!! Both Gage and Slavins
are out! Slavins gets a chair and hits a
brainbuster on the chair for two. Not sure why
Slavins is up first, honestly. Slavins hits the
Canadian Destroyer but, once again, only gets
two. Slavins runs the ropes and hits a spear for
two! Slavins hits a sloppy Sliced Bread #2 but,
once again, only egts two. The Cattle
Mutilization doesn't work either though, as Gage
flips out and hits the backpack stunner and a
shooting star for two. The Emerald Fusion only
gets two for Gage, and Gage follows up with the
Gage Crusher for three!
(23:03).
Wow, Slavins is the first out.
Bear comes in and clotheslines Gage quickly. He
then tags in the Unbearable One who tries to
hurt Gage but...fails. Gage fights out of a
single-leg Crab and hits the Red Line for three!
(23:59)
Gage tags in Bobb and Bear comes in and gets
superkicked down. Bobb tosses Bear into the
ropes and hits a Bobbbuster. Guess he isn't too
happy about the title loss? Bobb hits a elbow to
the back and locks in the BobbLock, but Bear
gets the ropes. Bobb walks on the Bear and
follows with punches and a knee. Bobb hits a
backbreaker for two. Bear gets up though and
hits a Bear-Hug into a Spinebuster and both men
are down. Bear hits a spear on Bobb and goes for
the Bear Claw but Bobb fights out. Bobb picks up
Bear though and hits the DVD on the Bear. Bobb
locks in the Brippler Bobbface and Bear taps
out!
(26:50)
Prototype attacks Bobb the moment Bear taps out.
Bobb stops him though and hits the Powerbobb.
Bobb sits up Prototype in the chair and Bobb
rushes into Prototype full-force. Prototype gets
up though and tricks Bobb and hits a suplex for
two. Prototype leg drops Bobb's taint and
Prototype locks in the Protocanda Vice but Bobb
doesn't tap. Prototype goes for the Flying
Asshole but Bobb blocks it and nails Prototype
with the chair. Bobb hits a German suplex on
Prototype and follows up with a spinning Bobb
Bottom. Prototype goes for his own German suplex,
but, doesn't work. Another Protocanda Vice but
Bobb powers out and punches Prototype and locks
in the Brippler Bobbface, forcing Prototype to
tap.
(30:45)
Calypso and Gage stare down Bobb until Calypso
runs in with a chair and nails the UCW champ
from behind. Calypso hits the DVD on Bobb for
two. Calypso nails Bobb with the chair twice but
still only gets two. Calypso kicks Bobb in the
chest and follows up with a jumping knee.
Calypso bodyslams Bobb on the chair and follows
up with the Roaring Elbow. Calypso then bicycle
kicks the chair into Bobb's back. Calypso grabs
the ladder and climbs the ladder and hits an
elbow drop for three.
(32:50)
Gage nails Calypso with the ladder and we are
down to the final two! Gage with stiff forearms
to the back of Calypso and a dropsault.Gage
tosses Calypso into the ropes and clotheslines
him. Gage hits a sitting dropkick and Calypso
doesn't look too good. Gage goes for the sit-out
Hurricarana but Calypso stops him and hits the
Calypso-clash and both men are down. Gage gets
up but Calypso superkicks him. Calypso suplexes
Gage on the ladder but both men get the ladder.
Calypso tosses Gage into the house and sets up a
ladder inbetween two chairs. Calypso drags Gage
to the ladder but Gage throws Calypso off the
ladder and onto the set up ladder ribs-first!
Gage nails Calypso in the back with the chair a
couple of times. Gage drop-toe holds Calypso
into the chair and places a ladder on Calypso.
Gage climbs the ladder and moonsaults off the
ladder onto Calypso and the ladder! Bodies and
ladders everywhere! Both men get up and grab
chairs and take turns clobbering one another
with the chairs right to the head. Unprotected
shots, people! Both men, obviously, are down.
Calypso hits a suplex and then places the ladder
on Gage. CAFLIPSO ON THE LADDER! Only gets two,
however. Calypso grabs the chair and props the
ladder up against it. Calypso goes for a suplex
but Gage reverses it and suplexes Calypso into
the ladder! Gage follows up with a body slam on
the ladder! Gage goes for the cover but Calypso
somehow kicks out. Both men can barely stand.
Gage hits the Gage Crusher but only gets two!
Gage gives Calypso a couple of stiff kicks to
the ribs and hits a vicious looking German
suplex for Calypso, followed by a Gagesault for
two. Calypso fights up though, puts Gage on his
shoulder, and does a stomach-breaker off the
ladder! Calypso grabs the ladder and sets it up
right next to another ladder. Both men climb the
ladders and Calypso wins the fight and hits a
SHELLSHOCK OFF THE LADDER!!!! Calypso retains
his UWA Undisputed Championship!
(42:20)
After the match, Gage and Calypso stare one another
down and shake hands.
Damn fine match that really seemed like six or
seven separate matches. The first twenty minutes
or so saw everyone taking turns wearing everyone
down and looking out only for them. Then Gage
and Slavins battled one another leading to Gage
winning. The we had a mini-match between Gage
and the Unbearable One which Gage also won. Bear
and Josh Bobb then had their own match, with
Bobb clearly upset that the Bear lost the UCW
tag titles. Bobb would win that one. This, along
with the tag match, shows that while the Bear is
a tough son of a bitch, he's focused soley on
beating people up. He makes very few, if any
pinfalls, like a Bear. Prototype would attempt
to defeat Josh Bobb quickly after. Bobb won
that, once again, with the Brippler Bobbface. So
that move is also established as something to
fear. Calypso quickly came in and attacked Josh
Bobb with a chair, using everything he could to
take out Josh Bobb. While Calypso won this
"match", he had to use chairs and cheap tatics.
Kind of like what he did at UCW Invasion. Not to
mention Josh Bobb just battled The Bear and
Prototype. The final two men, Gage and Calypso,
destroyed one another. While they did some crazy
stuff in the finals of the Deadly Draw, they
took it over the top with these finals, using
ladders and chairs like headlocks and armbars.
This was probably the most hardcore thing UWA
has ever done and it was exciting as hell
because you honestly had no idea how they could
top what they had just done. Calypso's last two
title defenses have been huge multi-man matches,
yes, but they have been some of the best UWA has
ever done and this one had so many stories
intertwined along with an incredible last ten
minutes, you HAVE to see this match. ****1/2
Overall: This show was just great. You have a
pretty interesting angle going on between the
AAR with Prototype sort of getting booted
unofficially for Gage and Prototype trying to
prove himself. Calypso's maniac ways led him to
two title defenses in one show with the
Heavyweight match being entertaining and the
Undisputed match being amazing. We also got a
great tag team match and new tag champs. Two
****+ matches and just a fun show all around,
with the only downer being Bobb/Unbearable
(which, even then, the commentary is fun and the
match is only 8 minutes), you HAVE to see this
show. Highest recommendation.
