UWA 04.15.05 Show Review |
|
UWA New Beginnings - 04.15.05
A new guy, Mike Moros, comes out to start the
show off. He says he's the new GM and is
granting Outlaw a rematch against Calypso from
the 04.09.05 match.
Outlaw Vs Calypso (UWA Heavyweight Title)
Outlaw has new music - it's gangsta’. Calypso
has Mike, the special ref, check on Outlaw for
weapons only to attack Calypso for the start.
Calypso stomps on Outlaw, then hits a suplex,
followed by two high elbow drops, but that only
gets two. Outlaw gets tossed and hit with a
Kobashi Clothesline from Calypso, who follows
with a jumping knee to the back, then steps on
Outlaw's chest for good measure. Calypso misses
an elbow off the ladder, and Outlaw follows up
with a high angle dropkick. Outlaw with a
headlock, but gets tossed out, only to hit
Calypso with a clothesline, and then a sidekick.
That only gets two. Calypso into to the ladder,
then a stiff shot to the ribs. Outlaw goes for
another headlock, but Calypso backdrops his way
out. Calypso puts in a modified sharpshooter
type thing, it's hard to describe, but Outlaw
fights out only to be rammed into the gas pipe.
Calypso with a stiff chop, then followed by a
huge running knee from Calypso, followed by a
DDT which gets two. Stiff kicks to Outlaw's
back, followed by an elbow drop for two. Calypso
locks in a single Boston Crab, then falls back
and locks the leg for added pressure as we cut
to commercial break. We're joined in progress
with Calypso working on the leg more with
legdrops and elbow drops on Outlaw's leg.
Calypso climbs the ladder and misses a splash,
and Outlaw runs in with the elbow, followed by a
bulldog, which gets a two. Outlaw locks in the
sharpshooter, but Calypso gets to the ropes and
Outlaw breaks the hold. Outlaw gives Calypso a
chance to get up, which proves to be a mistake
as Calypso nails Outlaw with a huge superkick.
More stiff kicks from Calypso, followed by a
running knee to the fact. Outlaw kicks out at
two and goes for the Lights Out, but Calypso
fights out and catches him with the F5 for the
three count.
(7:13)
**1/2 Decent enough opener but Outlaw didn't sell
too much and the leg work didn't really go
anywhere.
Winner and Still Champion: Calypso
Best of Five Series: Match 1
Scott Slavins Vs Gage
Scott tries to sweep the feet of Gage, but of
course that doesn't work. Both men grapple up
and Slavins goes behind, but Gage goes behind
with an arm wringer. Slavins pulls out the leg,
misses a clothesline, and then they exchange
armdrags. Gage misses a clothesline and gets an
armdrag of his own as both men stare each other
down. They lock up again and Slavins goes for
another armbar, but Gage backflips out only to
get a snapmare and a dropkick to the back of the
head. Slavins gives a cocky pin but only gets a
two. More work on the arm as hits a modified
shining wizard as we go to break. We come back
with a Dudley dog on Gage which gets two.
Slavins goes for a rollup, but Gage fights up
and goes for the roll up but only gets two. Both
men stare down, grapple again, and then Slavins
hits a side Russian legsweep. Manhattan Drop on
Gage, and Slavins hits a diving headbutt from
the ladder, but that only gets two as Slavins
does not hook the legs. Slavins with headbutts,
followed by stiff punches to the face, knocking
Gage down. Slavins hits a springboard kick to
the back of the head off the pump, but only gets
a two. Slavins goes for the three verticals,
gets two but Gage goes for the rollup. Gage gets
a two then hits a suplex of his own, followed by
a standing moonsault. Gage tosses Slavins into
the ropes and hits a spinning backbreaker on
Slavins, followed by a leg drop. Gage goes for a
powerbomb, but Slavins lands on his feet and
hits a powerful clothesline. Slavins hits a
delayed Sliced Bread, which gets a two, and both
men look hurt. Slavins hits a superkick and Gage
sells it like death. Slavins hits a headscissors
which gets two. Dragon Screw on Gage, nearly
snapping his leg. Slavins argues with the ref,
allowing Gage to go for a rollup, Slavins rolls
out of that, however, and hits the legdrop to
the stomach. Slavins follows up with stiff
punches, but Gage ducks the last one and hits a
clothesline, followed by a standing shooting
star press, but only gets a two count! Gage hits
a dropsault and then the Spinning TKO, which
gets the three count.
(8:35)
*** Both men really put a lot of effort into the
match and hit all their spots, but it was
lacking some flow and transitions. The score is
now 1-0, Gage.
Winner: Gage
Scott Slavins, Gage, Outlaw, and the newcomer
Steiner come out for a fatal four way match for
the #1 contender spot against Calypso on the
next show. Calypso comes out though and said he
wants to wrestle one more time tonight, so he
proposes a five way match, with the winner
getting a title shot, but if Calypso wins he
gets the week off title-shot wise. The promo
itself is the oddest one in UWA history, with
everyone chanting 'You got served' at the champ.
Calypso ran down every wrestler, telling how
he's better than them, to which Slavins replies,
"How about we beat your mom?” So, the match is a
five way dance.
Five Way Elimination Match
Scott Slavins Vs Gage Vs Outlaw Vs Steiner Vs
Calypso
Everybody gangs up on Calypso as the bell rings,
but Steiner throws Gage and Calypso into the
ring. Steiner hits a DDT on Calypso while
Slavins hits the snapmare/dropkick combo on
Gage. Steiner gets tossed into the ropes by
Calypso and is hit with a big boot. Calypso
tells Gage to do a "flippy thing", but he
doesn't do it. Calypso knocks down Gage, and
Slavins hits a low blow on Calypso. Steiner
gives Outlaw a series of legdrops, which only
gets a two. Slavins and Gage give a double curb
stomp to Calypso as Steiner hits Outlaw with a
clothesline. Dropsault on Calypso from Gage, and
Slavins hits a frogsplash on Outlaw, but for
whatever reason Steiner breaks up the fall, so
he gets a dropkick to the gut from Gage for
screwing up. Slavins goes for a reverse
sidekick, but Outlaw reverses it into a rollup.
Calypso goes out of the ring while Slavins and
Gage doing flips and swantons on Steiner.
Slavins follows with a facestomp on Outlaw as we
cut to commercial break. Outlaw gets a superkick
as we come back, and then Gage kicks Calypso
with a superkick followed by a Standing SSP.
Slavins holds on to Calypso's legs as he kicks
out and follows with a headbutt to the groin
followed by a step-up dropkick to the head. Gage
takes a brutal chokeslam from Steiner as Outlaw
spears Slavins. So much action to call in this
match, it's hard. Steiner hit a bulldog on Gage
as Calypso puts in the crossface on Slavins.
Steiner breaks it up though he gets a snapmare,
stiff kicks to the back, and a running dropkick
to the face. Slavins locks Outlaw in the ankle
lock, so Calypso puts the ankle lock on the
other ankle. Steiner gets up and applies a
crossface, forcing Outlaw to tap out.
(5:58)
Slavins hits a kick to the face and Gage with an
enzuguri to Calypso. Gage picks up him in a
headlock but gets backdropped. Calypso holds up
Steiner for Slavins to nail with his shoe.
Slavins goes for the pin, but Steiner kicks out,
so Slavins hits Steiner in the head with his
shoe about ten times. All three men brawl while
Gage climbs the ladder, and of course flips on
top of them, only Calypso getting out. Calypso
goes for another backdrop on Gage, but Gage
flips out and hits a dropkick. Slavins helps
Calypso though and they double team both Gage
and Steiner with punches. Slavins hits a
clothesline on Gage causing him to do a full
backflip. Slavins holds the ladder for Calypso
as he hits an elbow on Steiner. Slavins asks for
Calypso to hold the ladder, only to hit him and
hit a splash on his own on Steiner. Gage gets up
and Slavins spears him for the three count.
(8:36)
Slavins misses a superkick and Steiner locks in
a brutal Boston Crab, but Calypso breaks the
hold with a kick to the head, followed by an
amazing F5 on the big man. He's too hurt to
cover though, so Slavins gets the pin.
(9:18)
We come back from break with Slavins and Calypso
exchanging chops. Calypso misses a blind charge,
much like Slavins does afterwards. Calypso locks
in the headlock, but Slavins rolls out of it.
Calypso does the same to Slavins and both men
stare each other down. Calypso goads Slavins
into slapping him, only for Calypso to hit a
slap that knocks Slavins silly. Slavins then
gets hit with a huge clothesline followed by a
big suplex and Slavins looks dead. Calypso
follows up with repeated knees to the back,
followed by a delayed fameasser, but only gets a
two. Both men get up and exchange punches, but
Calypso wins after he causes Slavins to do a
Flair Flop. Calypso mocks Slavins by doing his
own Flair Flop on Slavins, followed by repeated
kicks to the chest and back, followed by an
elbow drop which gets two. Calypso tosses
Slavins into the ropes and turns a headscissors
into a sidewalk slam. Calypso picks up the
near-dead Slavins and hits the F5 for the pin.
(13:26)
*** It was a fun brawl with pretty much non-stop
action, but the ending fell a little flat
considering the final two, but everything else
was entertaining enough.
Decent show from the UWA, not the best but
there's a lot of good stuff in here along with
the debut of Steiner and the new GM. Thumbs up
since there's nothing too offensive.
