UWA 07.07.05 Show Review |
|
UWA 07.07.05
The concept of this show is simple...Mike Moros
hates Calypso and is willing to do anything to
get the title off him. There's also a couple of
other matches as well.
Gage Vs Scott Slavins (Match 4 in the Best
of Five)
Slavins is leading the series 2-1 right now, so
Gage has to win or Slavins will win the series.
Both men circle each other then grapple, Slavins
tossed in the ropes and then gets hit with two
arm drags, reverses a third one and hits his
own. They do some quick pins then another arm
drag sequence. Slavins jumps on Gage's back and
then hits a shining wizard to the back of the
head. Couple of stiff kicks to the shoulder
followed by a knees to the shoulder. Slavins
rolls over to lock the hold in and then splashes
the arm. Gage fights out of a leglock arm bar
and hits a mini powerbomb but gets taken down
with another armbar. Slavins continues to work
on the arm and stomps on it from the top of the
ladder. Gage's arm is bent in a really awkward
angle until Slavins locks in the reverse
triangle leg lock, which he rolls over into a
pin but only gets two. Slavins rolls out and
hits a dropkick to the back of the head. I t's
been all Slavins thus far. Side Russian leg
sweep from Slavins, followed by another armbar.
Slavins stomps the tip of the elbow, tosses Gage
into the ropes and gets dropkicked. Gage covers
but only gets two. Slavins works on the arm
again though, smashing it into the ground,
followed by a knee and a suplex. Backdrop gets
two. Slice Bread gets reversed and Gage hits a
dropkick and hits a clothesline. Gage with some
hard stomps to the back of Slavins, tosses
Slavins into the ropes and hits a spinning
backbreaker. Slavins lures Gage over to the
grill and hits him with a cookie sheet. We take
a commercial break and come back with Slavins
hitting Gage with the chair, followed by a flip
over the chair which gets two. Slavins puts the
chair on Gage's arm, climbs the ladder and hits
a flip off the ladder onto the arm. Slavins goes
for the Cattle Mutilation but Gage rolls out of
it and hits a backpack stunner for two. Shooting
Star Press gets two for Gage, so he follows up
with a moonsault, followed by a sharpshooter.
Surfboard and Slavins is bent in half, though
Gage lets go of the hold. Legdrop on the arm to
slavins followed by the Reverse Emerald Fusion
for two, then the flip over the neck, which
causes a Slavins Flop. Suplex follwed up by a
dropkick to the back but Gage gets hit in the
groin. Slavins hits a tornado DDT off the ladder
and on the chair. Slavins sets up Gage for the
spear and hits it, but is too tired to go for
the pin. Slavins hits multiple elbows to the
head of Gage, followed by a headbutt and another
spear. Gage hits the Death Valley Driver but
Slavins comes back with a kendo stick shot.
Slavins puts in the cattle mutilation and
wrenches it in. Gage rolls out of it again and
hits the Spinning TKO for the three count!
(14:44)
After the match, Slavins hits Gage with a chair. It
was a good match and told a good story, mostly
Slavins working on the arm, but if Gage was
going to win he needed a lot more offense in.
The match was all Slavins and it looked like
Gage won by fluke, which hurt the match. ***1/2
Steiner promo. Calls his opponents stupid.
Gage promo, who promises to chop Slavins' head
off if he has to.
Outlaw Vs Steiner Vs Sarge (Triple Threat
I Quit Elimination)
Trish Tackanawa is YOUR special guest ref for
this match. This is a rematch from their
05.20.05 "classic", this time under I Quit
rules. Outlaw points a gun at Sarge, but he's
unaffected. He does the same to Steiner. Steiner
ducks a double clothesline and knocks down Sarge
and throws Outlaw down and hits an elbow. Sarge
trips on a leg drop and Steiner hits a fame-asser.
Ducks an Outlaw clothesline and hits his own and
as we go to commercial break Sarge nearly breaks
Steiner's leg, though the officials in the back
say he's going to wrestle still. Diving
clothesline off the ladder from Sarge to Outlaw,
followed by a rolling Sarge. Outlaw hits a
suplex though and kicks Sarge in the ribs and
follows up with a DDT. Outlaw kips up but gets
punched down by Steiner, who then kicks Sarge in
the face. Suplex to Outlaw and a modified suplex
on Sarge. Steiner hits a modified backflip on
Sarge then gets kicked in the leg. Sarge works
on the broken knee then gets dropkicked by
Outlaw. Sarge hits a Russian leg sweep on Outlaw
and suplexes him followed by a whirly bird.
Steiner climbs the top of the ladder but has a
flashback and falls. Steiner has quit the match
even though nobody has touched him.
(4:48)
Outlaw puts in the Boston Crab but Sarge fights
out and hits a dropkick. Sarge tosses Outlaw in
the ropes and hits the Mortar and follows up
with punches. Another suplex but Outlaw doesn't
give. Sarge locks in a leg lock but Outlaw kicks
out of it, but gets tackled down. Horatio said
that Steiner's weiner flopped out in the back
and that it's small. Jack Evans come from out of
nowhere and hits Sarge in the back with a chair
as Trisha goes crazy! Outlaw hits a spear on
Sarge, misses a chair shot, and gets hit with a
German. Sarge picks up Outlaw and hits another
German, followed by another, and another. Sarge
misses a ladder shot, then puts it on his
shoulders but gets dropkicked for his effort.
Outlaw throws Sarge face-first into the ladder
but Sarge follows up with repeated ladder shots
to the ribs. Jack Evans comes back and hits a
SSP on Outlaw and runs away! Sarge gets confused
and locks in an armbar. Outlaw tossed into the
ropes and hits a back body drop. Outlaw gets his
eyes raked and a brawl breaks out. Shoulder
tackles on Outlaw and then an elbow to the arm
followed by a splash. Outlaw goes for an Ankle
lock but Sarge rolls him up to reverse it.
Outlaw elbows his way out and hits the Lights
Out! Sarge knees the ribs of Outlaw and hits a
Samoan drop. Crossface Chickenwing but Outlaw
elbows his way out again and then hits a low
blow on the Sarge. Outlaw grabs a chair and hits
Sarge with it and then a dropkick. Outlaw climbs
the top of the ladder and poses to the crowd and
misses a splash off. Sarge stomps on Outlaw's
head and hits a reverse Tiger suplex. Sarge
tries to pick Outlaw up but Outlaw locks in the
ankle lock and Sarge quits! Outlaw is your new
UWA Heavyweight champion!
(16:05)
While not as bad as the 05.20.05 match, it also
wasn't as entertaining. There was improvement
from last time, and the commentary made the
match watchable. Steiner's injury really changed
the face of the match, I'm sure and it left
Sarge, the least experienced, to carry the
match. While Outlaw has the most experience in
the match, he's not one to carry a match. They
all tried, however, and you can't fault them for
that. *
Calypso promo, one of the longest in the UWA
thus far. Calypso talks about how Moros hates
him and how he's willing to do anything he has
to in order to keep his title.
The Deadly Draw
The rules to this match are simple, really.
Calypso starts out with Sarge and every five
minutes another wrestler comes out. The match
ends if anybody pins Calypso, but in order for
Calypspo to win he has to outlaw everybody.
Calypso does have the advantage of not having
wrestled a match prior to this one, however.
This match also marks the first encounter of
Calypso and Sarge, and the debut of Calypso's
orange hair.
Both men circle around and Calypso puts in a
headlock and takes down Sarge. Sarge fightt out
with a nasty looking backdrop followed by a
one-legged drop kick. Suplex to Calypso and the
champ goes to the outside. They grapple again
and Calypso goes down to the front face lock and
front clips on top of Sarge, then knees the back
of Sarge. Repeated stomps, then stiff kicks,
three slaps, and an elbow drop all in
succession. Calypso climbs the ladder but misses
as Sarge moves. Sarge hits another suplex (of
Doom) and dives on the back of Calypso, nearly
folding him in half. Calypso fights up however
and hits the Angel's Wing and hits more knees to
the back and a super hard kick. Snap suplex to
Sarge and Calypso takes his time to follow up
and gets a low blow for his trouble, then Sarge
sweeps out his legs and locks in the
SargeMission. Calypso wraps his legs around
Sarge then elbows his way out followed by the
twisting leg lock then punches Sarge in the
head. Calypso poses then tosses Sarge into the
ropes and we get a double clothesline as Outlaw
comes out. Joe takes his time to the ring and
clotheslines Sarge. Outlaw stomps on Sarge and
hits a suplex. Calypso tosses Outlaw into the
ropes and hits a bodyslam and hits one on Sarge
for good measure. Powerbomb to Outlaw and gets a
two count. We take a commercial break and come
back with Outlaw clothesline Calypso. Sarge
throws Outlaw off his shoulders and gets hit
with a bulldog. Three knees to Sarge's back and
then a front flip from Calypso. Outlaw and
Calypso go for a double suplex but Sarge ends up
suplexing both of them and compacts Calypso.
Sarge tosses Outlaw into the house, then throws
Calypso in it as well. Sarge pins Outlaw but
only gets two. Sarge throws Outlaw ontop of
Calypso and then goes to pick up Calypso but is
caught in the F5 and Calypso hits it. Outlaw
comes out of nowhere and covers Sarge though for
the three!
(07:53)
Outlaw dropkicks Calypso as Gage comes out and
prances around. He knees Calypso in the ribs and
beats down both men. Bodyslam on Calypso from
Gage then Gage hits a Shooting Star Press and
Calypso rolls out of the ring. Outlaw and Gage
both stomp on Calypso and then hit a double
suplex on the champion. Gage turns on Outlaw
with a DDT and locks in his version of the
Sharpshooter. Calypso gets up and stomps on
Outlaw while he's in the submission. Gage talks
trash to the camera while Calypso hits a Lights
Out on Calypso, and gets dropkicked to the back
by Gage. Headscissors DDT follows up and then
hits a dropsault on Outlaw, but gets a suplex
from Calypso. Outlaw gets slapped by Calypso,
tossed in the ropes, and hit with a big boot.
Gage runs up and hits a hurricarana on Calypso
but then gets speared by Outlaw. Scott Slavins'
music hits but he's nowhere to be seen for a
long time. The camera looks for him but he can't
be found. Gage kips up and dropkicks Outlaw in
the back as Calypso struggles to stand. Gage
hits a moonsault on Calypso as Slavins comes out
and then climbs the ladder and watches the
others. Gage stares down Slavins, then rolls
Outlaw up for the two count. Slavins sits on the
ladder and stares. Calypso hits a powerbomb on
Gage as we take a commercial break. We come back
with Slavins and Calypso taking turns punching
Outlaw then ending it with a double clothesline.
We see Gage appear on the top of the house,
though the men below don't notice him. Slavins
and Calypso both beat down Outlaw until Gage
hits a moonsault on all three men off the roof!
Everybody is down! Gage gets up and covers
Outlaw for the three count!
(14:52)
Calypso runs in the ring and hits Gage in the
ribs and hits a suplex but gets hit with a
headscissors. Gage tossed in the ropes and he
hits a hurricarana on Calypso but then gets hit
with a headscissors by Slavins. Calypso hits a
Face Breaker on Slavins for the two count.
Calypso and Slavins then hit a suplex-double DDT
combo. Slavins jump in Calypso's arm then takes
him down and works on the leg for a breif
moment. Slavins tosses Gage into the ropes and
hits a clothesline. Slavins locks in the cattle
mutilation on Calypso as we take a commercial
break. We come back with Calypso hitting a
spinning bodyslam and we find out Slavins has
walked out of the match.
(17:46)
Some weird music starts playing and out comes a
random guy in a monkey mask! Gage and Calypso,
both beat down and tired, just stare at the man
who keeps rolling and jumping around to the
weird music. Calypso grapples the Man in a
Monkey Mask and then hits the F5 for the three
count!
(19:18)
We're down to the final two men of Calypso and
Gage. They stare each other down until Gage hits
a hard dropkick on Calypso. Calypso fights up
and hits a big boot on Gage though, then a
release German suplex. Calypso hits a flip on
Gage, two knees, then another slip and locks in
a nasty looking leg submission. Calypso picks up
Gage and hits him with the F5 for the three
count!
(21:26)
To be totally honest, the match wasn't all that
great. The match went downhill after the Gage
moonsault spot and even then the match was only
decent. It did, however, tell a few stories.
Calypso tried to keep things slow, knowing he
would have to wrestle the longest in order to
win, while everybody else tried their best to
hit their biggest and best moves on the champ,
which is why the match didn't last as long as
you might first think. Everybody was hitting the
big moves as opposed to trying to wrestle the
champ. Gage came out and acted differently than
we've ever seen him, which plays along with the
promo he cut after his match saying that Slavins
has made him do things he's never done before.
Slavins played his part well, practically
running away from Gage, which cost him the match
in the long run. Outlaw and Sarge looked better
in this match than they did in their own match,
though I would have liked to seem them sort of
continue their match in this one, but they
didn't get much of a chance as they were so
focused on the champion. Even with all the
story-telling in the match though, the wrestling
simply wasn't that great. Everybody seemed to be
having an off night of sorts, especially
Slavins, and the ending just felt flat. **
Overall, the show is just 'ok'. They went for an
epic battle and got a disjointed mess for a
match. I would like to see them try it again
though, hopefully with a little bit of planning.
I'm sure the 80+ degree weather didn't help
either. The opening match was good, however, and
it's always nice to see a title change. But, one
decent match out of three in an hour-long show
just isn't good. Thumbs down for the "Deadly
Draw."
