UWA 10.20.06 Show Review

UWA 10.20.06 Show Review - The Deadly Draw II

After over 15 months since the first Deadly Draw, Mike Moros and Calypso have brought the match back. At UCW Invasion, Mike and Calypso invaded during the main event and beat Josh Bobb for the UWA Heavyweight Championship; making him the first double-champion in UWA History. Furthermore, he began the feud that would become UCW Vs UWA. This match was made as an open-invitational to any and all UCW and UWA members. Calypso and JD Marshall start things out.

The Deadly Draw for the UWA Undisputed Championship:
We start right into Calypso's entrance, coming alone and without his championships. Calypso started out as number one in the last Deadly Draw and last eliminated Gage. JD Marshall is the second man in the match and he's wrestled one UWA match before; back in January, losing to Josh Bobb. The bell rings and both men stare each other down until they exchange moves and submissions, which is quite a surprise. Calypso ends in a leg grapvine into a headlock, which Marshall breaks with a backdrop. JD Marshall goes for a take down but Calypso falls on top of him and applies the front face lock. Headbutts and a couple of knees lead to Calypso stepping ontop of Marshall followed by fomr kicks and a Calypso Elbow Drop for two. Back body drop gets two. Marshall hits a DDT for two and legdrops the leg and arm of Calypso. Marshall gets cocky but loses a test of strength. JD Marshall tries to roll out but gets kicked in the stomach for his efforts. A snap suplex sends Marshall flying. The commentators really don't like Marshall. Calypso misses an elbow off the ladder and he gets kicked in the back. JD Marshall hits the Tiger Suplex. Calypso applies a headlock takedown but JD Marshall rolls it into a pin twice as Scott Slavins comes out. It should also be noted that the times are horribly off as far as five minute intrevals. Calypso tags in Slavins and he hits a Double Stomp on JD Marshall. At the last Deadly Draw Slavins walked out due to frustration or something. Slavins punches Marshall and works on the arm. Marshall gets away and tags Calypso who gets rolled up for a two count. Calypso reverses it for two. Both men are up and Calypso beats Slavins down with punches, kicks, and knees. Calypso hits a Caflipso for one. Calypso with a front face lock which Slavins turns into a hammerlock followed by repeated knees to the shoulder. Slavins then locks in the Fish Hook until Calypso bites his way out but still gets beat down by Slavins. Single Arm DDT by Slavins who tags in Marshall who hits a Tornado DDT on Calypso for two. Calypso applies the Walls of Calypso in but Marshall gets to the ropes. Slavins is tagged in again and Slavins legdrops Marshall while he's on Calypso's knee for two. Sleeper hold on Marshall, who tries to get up but can't quite do it. Marshall fights out and hits a backdrop and a legscissors. The Bear enters the match and the commentators go crazy. Calypso beat the Bear in a UWA Heavyweight Title match at an untelevised event. Marshall tags in the Bear who flapjacks Slavins high in the air. A huge suplex forces Slavins to tag Calypso in. Both men pace around until Calypso ran and tagged in JD Marshall in our first UCW Vs UCW portion, to which Bear hits the Bear Bottom for two right away. JD Marshall fights out of a Peral River Plunge and tags in Slavins. Slavins punches the Bear and stomps on the arm of Bear. The Bear rolls Slavins up for two. The Bear applies the Bear Lock and the Bear Nelson Slam followed by a Bear Boot. The Bear tags in Calypso who pounds away at Slavins until he goes down. Then he punches him some more...then some more kicks...and an elbow. For two. A reverse cravate is turned into a neckbreaker and then Slavins gets kicked in the neck followed by a DVD. JD Marshall tags in Slavins who gets superkicked as soon as he walks in for two. Calypso gets taken down by Marshall who tries to catapault Calypso but instead gets a butt drop. The Bear tags in and both men stare one another down and start punching. The pucnhes turn itno peppering slaps until Calypso punches the stomach, then shoulder tackles, followed by chops. Calypso wears the Bear down and manages to hit an enzuguri and both men are down. During all of this KAG comes out. That was a pretty exciting minute or so of just two men beating the hell out of each other. KAG and Marshall get tagged in for a rematch at the last UCW show. Marshall and KAG exchange punches and kicks until Marshall hits the Facebuster for two. KAG goes for the Camel Clutch and a couple of elbows. JD Marshall hits the Pool of Fears to eliminate KAG at
16:26.

Slavins enters the match and applies the Figure Four on Marshall; wooing the entire time. Marshall tries to fight out but Slavins punches him until he lets go. Gage comes out as Slavins applies the Indian Death Lock on Marshall. Gage did a moonsault off the roof at the last Deadly Draw and came in second place. Marshall tags in Gage as soon as he can. Both men grapple and Gage tosses Slavins in the air and dropkicks him. Gage pounds away and hits a backdrop on the knee. He keeps Slavins bent over his knee until Slavins elbows Gage in the face. Gage stomps away at Slavins before he can get the tag and hits a suplex followed by even more punches. Sweeps the leg out from underhim and Gage hits a shooting star forearm. Slavins hits a dropkick. Gage reverses an Acid Drop into the Backpack Stunner. The General comes in the match as we go to break. Slavins hits the tornado DDT as we come back from break for two. Slavins hits a side Russian leg sweep and hits a snap suplex into the Reverse Dragon Sleeper. Gage tosses Slavins right on his face who tags in the Bear and the Bear hits the Double Handed Piledriver on Gage who lands right on his head; it only gets two. Gage hits a Bear Boot and a Leg Drop. Slavins runs in and dropkicks Gage and the Bear hit the Bear Russian Leg Sweep. Gage punches his way up and hits another suplex followed by a Gagesault for two. UCW Heavyweight Champion Josh Bobb enters the match as Gage hits a drop kick. Slavins tags in the bear and hits a Pedigree on Gage for two. Slavins grabs a chair and hits a rolling thunder off it for two. Slavins follows up with a senton for another two count. Slavins gets backdropped and Gage tags in Calypso; his first appearance in about ten minutes. Josh Bobb gets tagged in and both champions stare one another down. Bobb slaps Calypso who punches and pounds away at Bobb, followed by knees and kicks. Calypso hits a huge suplex on Bobb and elbows him for two. Calypso throws Bobb into the ladder causing the General to beat down Calypso and Calypso tries to fight off both men until The Bear and JD Marshall come in the match and it's a four on one assault. Slavins and Gage run in with chairs and bear down UCW and The Unbearable One enters the match and it's mayhem as everyone is battling away as we go to commercial break. When we get back, Calypso and Bobb are in a test of strength to which Bobb reverses into a Side Russian Leg Sweep. Marshall gets the tag who works over the arm of Calypso slightly and the bottom drops out for Calypso and gets two. Calypso hits a scary looking Powerbomb (due to Marshall not cooperating) and then an F5 for two. The Bear tags in Marshall and Calypso tags out Josh Bobb. Both men grapple and the Bear tosses Bobb down. Both men grapple again, this time Bobb tosses Bear. Grapple again, Bobb with a headlock, and a DDT. Bobb tosses Bear into the ropes and hits a Spinebuster. The Unbearable One tags as does the General and the Unbearable One gets a chokebomb. Josh Bobb hits the Unbearable One with Termination Time and the General splashes the Unbearable One for the three count at
29:29.

JD Marshall runs in but gets a Suplex-DDT for his troubles by General. The General hits the Last Rites for two. Josh Bobb tags the General and Bobb tosses Marshall and then hits a Bobbtomb Driver for the three count at

33:30.

Gage enters the match with a sidekick. Gage stomps away at Bobb and nails Bobb with the chair. Gage climbs the ladder and hits a GageSault off the ladder on Bobb for the three count at

The General dropkicks the chair into Gage's back, but Calypso comes from behind and nails The General with a chair and hits the F5 for a two count. Calypso pounds away at The General and hit the Shellshock for the elimination at
37:49.

Just like at the first Deadly Draw, it's Calypso and Gage. Calypso smahses Gage into the chair face first and stomps away, followed by a rib crusher. Calypso hits a STO for two. Calypso hits a stiff kick to the gut and hits a backdrop on his knee. Calypso stomps away on the ribs of Gage, tosses him into the ropes, but Gage kicks Calypso in the gut and hits a sitting hurricarana, a kick to the back, and a powerful sitting dropkick for two. Calypso can barely stand but does manage to hit a low blow to gain the upperhand. Calypso peppers Gage with slaps and hits a Caflipso for two. 43:21! After the match, Calypso and Gage shake hands.
Winner and STILL UWA Undisputed Champion: Calypso

What a hell of a match. Calypso did what he did last year and started out number one with a very green opponent and made them look good and lasted the entire duration of the match. The tag rules of this match I think helped it and because of that we have a much better match than the first one. The match started off slow but it wasn't dull. It was building everyone up and with the exception of The Unbearable One, everyone looked strong and got to hit their moves. Calypso, Gage, and Josh Bobb come out looking the strongest with all of them eliminating two people (and eliminating both of them in a row). And the last fifteen minutes or so of the match was extremely exciting and fast paced with very few, if any, slow spots. The rapid eliminations, as least in this case, actually helped the flow of the match. Some might argue the UWA and UCW factions should have been more united but this wasn't about federation pride; just taking the championship off Calypso; regardless of your federation. And there were quite a few instances of teamwork when there needed to be teamwork: The UCW beatdown of Calypso and Calypso illegally eliminating General to save Gage are the two standout examples. Most everyone lasted quite a while with these times being the rough duration of their time in the match (In Order of Elimination);
KAG: 2 minutes
Unbearable One: 3 minutes
JD Marshall: 31 minutes
The Bear: 23 minutes
Josh Bobb: 11 minutes
Scott Slavins: 32 minutes
The General: 18 minutes
Gage: 25 minutes
Calypso: 43 minutes

So, for the final match rating, I give the Deadly Draw II ****. I highly suggest this show.
